Holy shit, I have all of "Pleasant Dreams" on my computer, courtesy of my buddy Drew from The Neutrinos! For anyone who is anti-Queers, this album probably won't change you, because you're a poon balloon. But to me, one of the biggest Queers fans eva, this is the greatest album of all time.
It surpassed "DBD" and "Grow Up" and any album ever released after listening to about five songs. The album is not really that snotty. It is more poppy than "DBD", but about as much as "PRC". The songs are filled with chimes, organs, and all the extras that make great albums great.
As for the individual songs.... here we go. Not one bad one.
"Get a Life and Live It Loser"- It's re-recorded, and the song sounds different. It's a little slower, and the bass is not as prominent. But all in all, it's still one of the best songs ever. No complaints here.
"See You Later, Fuckface"- We've all heard it. It rocks.
"I Wanna Be Happy"- This is the song that made this the best album I have ever heard. JQ and BW wrote this song around an unfinished Joey Ramone demo. It is so beautiful. I can't describe it. Everything I have ever felt in terms of "feeling" a love song are in here. So this is my favorite song ever. Period.
"Danny Vapid"- The vox are a little jarbled on here, but the ones I can pick out are funny. It rocks. Even better than "Ben Weasel", and this song rocks hard. It's less poppy, but it is rockin'. Makes fun of pop-punk shit-talkers everywhere, yet somehow relates entirely to how JQ thinks Vapid is OK these days.
"I Never Got the Girl"- This sounds kind of like the Ramones song "I Wanna Be Well", only hella better. Great harmonies, and just an all-around quality slow love song. JQ is still doing it right. Fuck the stupid girls.
"It's Cold Outside"- Choir cover. We've heard it. It's awesome.
"Psycho Over You"- Some cool organ/guitar mixing. Rocks hard, with a good chorus. This is another mid-tempo number, and it just sounds great. Somehow JQ is saying everything I want to say on this album. I can't get over it.
"Generation of Swine"- All about hatin' the stupid punks. You'd think it was a "Beyond the Valley" shit-rant, but it actually has melody. It is basically everything JQ has ever said about stupid punk kids, so you can tell what the lyrics are about. Aside from the bad title (which scared me at first), this song is awesome.
"Tic Tic Toc"- A little faster, with some cool rhythm changes in the beginning. Very Ramones, though. Sounds great, especially with the chorus harmonies. JQ and Mass definitely put the Pro Tools to good use back in December.
"I Don't Want You Hangin' Around"- Starts with the trademark "Ahmed Johnson lead". Good vocals on this track. The drums hit hella hard, and it rocks right through you. Light on lyrics, but sounds great. JQ really doesn't want you around.
"Homo"- A slower version of a "Queerbait" type song. Really funny lyrics. Mention of DF in the lyrics. JQ is definitely slightly homophobic. Also, this song might be about Troy... "girls are always makin' you cry". Who knows? Has JQ been frequenting The Cure message board? Great organ solo in this song, too.
"You've Just Gotta Blow My Mind"- This has no JQ vocals, only Gretchen Smear from The Smears. but she sings so well. This song is not slow, but instead has a bouncy MTX quality. The guitar does not sound like The Queers at all, but this album is all about trying new stuff, which is working out so well it's unbelievable. DD gets some bass action in here, too.
"Debbie Be True"- A great Beach Boys style tune. I don't think it's a cover. It starts out weird, but turns into an awesome 4/4 slow-rocker. Just a great song, with some good JQ singin' and harmonies, along with more organ. Is it just me, or is the organ making this album? It's so much better than the crappy Casio-playing on "Anthem". This song is great.
"Molly Neuman"- One of the owners of Lookout!? Ummm... ok. It's pretty much a joke track, about how the Big M won't return JQ's calls and picks The Donnas over him, apparently. Well, anyway, this is one of those hidden song johns. It has a bunch of radio static interspersed with JQ singing "Molly Neuman" over a "Junk Freak" style riff. There's some cool breaks, and a great "I Hate Your Fuckin' Guts" rock-style solo. Then after about four minutes of silence, he breaks into Deep Purple's "Smoke On the Water". I don't know... it's crazy, but it is awesome.
THIS IS THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME. HANDS DOWN. I LOVE IT. I WILL GET MY REAL COPY SOON, BUT I HAVE THE WHOLE THING, AND IT IS THE PERFECT ALBUM. NOTHING WILL EVER COME ALONG TO REPLACE IT. THAT IS MY REVIEW.
