I read the book as well, in one sitting, and it was extremely enjoyable. Ben Weasel continues to say that the book has nothing to dow ith him, or SW in particular, but as Night said, the similarities are too much for one to just let them go by. Some are word for word out of other things he's written... song lyrics in the book for important songs are just passed-off SW songs, such as the usurption of "I Love Beer".
I am not going to give it a big review, but it was excellent. The nice part about it is it is about one's feelings on punk rock, which you don't get all the time. BW describes exactly what he thinks punk is, and what it can do to people. That is what the book is about. It is about growing up and growing old while immersed in the world of punk rock.
I enjoyed the sleaze, imagining BW giving facials while fucking a Nazi while her skinhead boyfriend gets fucked in the ass by a punk in a driveway. If that is what going on tour is like, I wonder what DF or JQ did back in the day. You wouldn't think DF is a sleaze, but maybe all the double entendré in "She's Coming (Over Tonight) is about him being trash.
Anyway, it's an awesome read, and the end is truly inspirational to me. It chronicles getting over a long, tough relationship, death of a best friend, and getting old in general. I went through quite a few emotions reading it, and it meant a lot. The ending makes the book, though most of it is fast-paced, funny, and enjoyable. It is not all trash. All of it is insightful and at some times, beautiful.
The best crowd-baiting line comes not from Joe Pagan, but from the singer of another band they play with. While skinheads are terrorizing kids at a show, the singer spouts off:
"Hey, knock that off, or I'm gonna come down here, put a dress on you and fuck you."
If anyone evers heckles me, I'll say the same exact thing, because it's pretty badass.
